THE GRAVEYARD APARTMENT

28220806The Graveyard Apartment: A Novel by Mariko Koike

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This tale is chilling and creepy. Trying to rationalize the irrational is a difficult thing.
Since the beginning there is a hint of supernatural occurrence, and it has all the elements for keeping you glued to the book: a little child, a dog, a caring and well minded mother, the father that seems practical and careless, a dead bird, and things only the child could see. As you move forward the supernatural element is more present and you will learn things about the main characters that will make you dislike them or feel pity. The pace of the story is too slow, and there are words that are repeated to exhaustion, but you have to keep in mind that it is a translation from the original. There are plot holes and a cliff hanging finale that is really disappointing. This is my point of view and have to admit that I kept at it till the end hoping that magically all the time consumed in reading it will be rewarded with common sense or a battle between good and evil, and yet...

This is in the horror, thriller section and it sure delivers it.

Note: I received an ARC for review and an honest and unbiased opinion.
