I haven't read the first book, Sands, but could keep up with the story. Interesting how each of the chapters begins with a piece of information from the scrolls that helps understand the plot. A story about courage, facing change, and preparing for an attack of an unknown enemy. The characters are likable and the sequence of events is program perfectly and fast paced. 

Paranormal fantasy that will keep you on the edge. Great for teens and YA. Can't wait for the next installment.
