Charlie Parker is one of my favorite characters in a detective series.
This time we see a simple request from a woman who’s being stalked by a man. She asks the detective to help her with the matter, and since it is an ordinary job he accepts without much thought. But what is behind the motive of the stalker is a really dark secret that needs to be revealed. He is a ruthless killer being manipulated by a greater force that needs to balance the debt owed and claim the souls of those who have forfeit them. An entity who is never alone, and whose purpose is greater than anything.
This book is centered in one of the greater crimes against humanity and the thought of it is very disturbing and unsettling. There are monsters in this world and the reality of it is very damning and obscure. The ones addressed here are the worst kind: the ones that prey on the innocence of a child.
